A fully Vietnamese interface built on the powerful yt-dlp library. The goal: turn a normally command-line, intimidating tool into an app anyone can use - free, ad-free, and privacy-respecting. Packaged as a single .exe: double-click to run, no Python or FFmpeg installation required. ## Who it is for - Non-technical everyday users: paste a link and download, everything in Vietnamese, just a few buttons on the main screen. - People saving music/videos for offline viewing, lectures, or reference material. - Power users - creators, students - who need playlists, subtitles, clipping, cookies, and raw yt-dlp parameters in the Advanced tab. ## Core features - Download video 360p-4K (mp4/mkv/webm) or audio-only (mp3/m4a/opus/flac/wav/vorbis). - Download several links in parallel (1-4), each with its own progress. - Preview title, duration, channel, and estimated size before downloading. - A "retry failed links" button, a completion chime, and an optional auto-open-folder. - Bandwidth throttling and a format-inspector showing every available option. ## Advanced - Playlists and full channels; pick playlist items (e.g. 1-5,10); download or embed subtitles by language. - Clip a section (e.g. 00:30-01:30); album artwork, metadata, chapters, and SponsorBlock. - Download history: automatically skip already-downloaded videos. - Cookies from browser or a .txt file for restricted content; proxy for geo-blocks. - Parallel-download config, custom file-naming, and a raw yt-dlp parameter field. - System diagnostics, yt-dlp self-update, and in-app FFmpeg management. ## Automatic & resilient - Self-recovery from failures via an escalating strategy chain (switch player, lower format, load cookies…). - Self-updates yt-dlp from PyPI to keep up with changing platforms. - Auto-renames files when a video title is empty or made of invisible characters. - Reports failures honestly and cleans up leftover temp files - no fake "done". ## Installation - Pre-built: DonDow.exe (~98 MB, bundles FFmpeg, runs immediately) or DonDow-lite.exe (~24 MB, fetches FFmpeg on first run). - From source: Python 3.9+, install requirements via pip, run DonDow.py, or build the .exe with build.py. ## Privacy & transparency No data collection, no ads, no intermediary servers, no telemetry. It connects only to: your target media source, PyPI (updates), and gyan.dev (FFmpeg). Release binaries are built publicly by GitHub Actions from the exact repo source - fully auditable. Unlicense - public domain, free to use, modify, and distribute. ## Known limitations - Spotify is unsupported due to Widevine DRM - the app says so clearly rather than circumventing it. - Currently Windows-only. ## Roadmap - macOS/Linux build - technically feasible (cross-platform Python + tkinter) but not yet committed to a timeline. - A custom app icon (currently uses the default). - A pure web version is not feasible with this architecture - yt-dlp must run server-side; browsers cannot download directly.
