# Promethium Modpack - Building a Living Minecraft World

Promethium is an **open-source Minecraft modpack**, developed **100% by a single person (solo dev)**. Behind it lies a single ambition: to build a _truly living_ Minecraft world - one where gameplay experience and feel are pushed to the maximum, while still running smoothly across as many machines as possible.

## The vision: a living Minecraft world

Promethium is not just "bundling mods together". The goal is to **rebuild the feel of the game from the ground up**: terrain, performance, experience, and audio are tuned to work as a single whole. The guiding philosophy is _deep optimization_ - maximizing performance and immersion without sacrificing stability.

## Standing on the shoulders of giants - transparently

Promethium is built and improved on top of major modpacks, most notably **Fabulously Optimized** and **Better MC**. Crucially, this is done with the **consent of the original authors** of both modpacks - respecting the open-source spirit and the community's work. Promethium inherits the optimization foundation of Fabulously Optimized and the content depth of Better MC, then upgrades further across many layers.

## What Promethium upgrades

- **Terrain:** a richer, more believable world that rewards exploration.
- **Optimization:** deep system-level tuning that **frees up to ~30% of hardware performance** versus the base setup - smoother on more machines.
- **Experience:** countless small refinements for a more seamless, satisfying feel.
- **Immersive 3D audio:** a spatial (3D) sound system that conveys direction and distance, pulling players into the world convincingly.

## The development journey

Promethium began in **early 2025** and was **officially released on 22 January 2026**. Between those milestones lies a massive development process with **many large overhauls**. Most of the change history and detailed source is **kept private for security reasons** - but the result is public: the release has surpassed **1,000+ organic downloads on CurseForge**.

## Compatibility & recommended setup

Because Promethium optimizes deeply at the system level, the **best experience is on Windows 10 and Windows 11**. Due to differences in how macOS and Windows handle optimization, **some Mac machines may see weaker performance** - a known technical limitation, not a fault on the player's side.

## Current status

The project is **currently paused** due to the author's time and budget constraints, and will be **developed further when conditions allow**. As an open-source project built solo, every step forward in Promethium is the product of long-term persistence.
